Originally from Australia, Luke brings OmniTI more than ten years of experience and thought leadership in Web development, IT consulting and research. He is an author of the best-selling PHP and MySQL Web Development (Sams Publishing) and MySQL Tutorial (MySQL Press).
Luke has extensive experience as a consultant and trainer in Web technologies and Open Source, and regularly speaks on these topics at worldwide conferences including OSCON, ZendCon, MySQLUC, PHPCon, OSDC and LinuxTag. He has acted as a technical editor and reviewer for books and book proposals on various topics including PHP, MySQL and PostgreSQL.
Prior to joining OmniTI, Luke worked for Web analytics company, Hitwise.com; database vendor, MySQL AB; and as an independent consultant.
Luke is a past winner of the CCH Emerging Technology Award for developing online legal services and was a nominee for a Jolt Productivity Award for his book on PHP. He earned his Computer Science degree from RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia and has certifications from MySQL and Zend.
Luke is a keen eventer, so when he’s not working, he can often be found on horseback. One of his horses, Tinker, came with him to the U.S. from Australia.
