  • Operational Systems Consultant

    Nova Defence

    (Defense & Space industry)

    February 2006Present (3 years 10 months)

My work at Nova Defence covers a variety of validation and verification and systems safety roles in a consulting. I manage the project for the development of validation planning documentation to the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) for the Wedgetail Airborne Early Warning and Control aircraft. I also manage ongoing verification activities for the installation of avionics systems on the RAAF Orion aircraft for a significant mid-life avionics upgrade. Concurrent with management of validation and verification projects, I have developed systems safety processes and procedures for the Air Warfare Destroyer Combat System, participated in field trials for the Defence Science and Technology Organisation and validated a ground based aviation system which was subsequently withdrawn from service saving the RAAF millions of dollars in In-service Support costs.
My most recent validation experience has been the completion of the validation of the Royal New Zealand Air Force Boeing 757 aircraft and its support systems. The aircraft has been modified to carry a combination of palletised cargo and passengers and has had new avionics systems installed. I developed the plan, managed the data, analysed the results and wrote the report for this intensive three month task.
Demonstrating flexibility and my bent towards systems safety, I have also written a Laser Safety Paper for the lasers fitted to an electro-optics turret that will be installed on the Orion fleet. This task conducted on a cut down MIL-STD-882C framework and built upon my systems safety experience at Saab Systems.
