    I lead research towards the application of artificial intelligence and machine learning to pervasive computing and communications. This work has resulted in several journal and conference publications. I am currently associate supervisor to four postgraduate (PhD) students.

    As a Consultant to the Political Science Department I produced databases from corpora of political texts for automated feature extraction. The databases I produced represented all Dáil (the Irish government) debates from 1927-2002 and U.K. House of Commons debates from 1992-2004.

    I was part of a team that tested the proposed electronic voting system for the electronic voting commission created by the Irish government. In this role I implemented the Irish system of counting elections that was used to perform the testing. Our results demonstrated flaws in the proposed system and our analyses were important contributions to the commission’s recommendations to the government.
