Tools to Thrive
Redding, California Area
My objective is to bolster the knowledge transfer between individuals/groups working to make the world a better place. And to leverage that collective knowledge to effect positive change.
My international experience is mostly in Latin America, including work such as co-founding a summer abroad, full immersion in appropriate technology, globalization and Spanish program in Mexico.
My experience in higher education is marked by my work to increase knowledge, both in myself and others, of the world through exposure and synthesis. I believe that science, culture and language are inextricably linked, and I highlight that connection through service-learning based education. I teach multiple subjects in sciences and information technology, but my focus is on Appropriate Technologies which work to improve existing conditions by leveraging local knowledge, materials, wealth and labor through transparency and stakeholder participation.
My design, construction and supervision experience on many appropriate technology projects includes: greywater systems; earthen ovens; cob & adobe buildings, parabolic cookers; vermiculture system; composters; photovoltaic systems; interpretive displays; solar ovens; recycling; wastewater treatment; information technology; portable computer stations; waste reduction/energy conservation packages; digital signal processing; solar hot water; mobile medical computer stations; many more.
