I have worked as an executive producer, show runner, writer, and creative executive for the past twenty-five years, traveling the world as a start-up specialist (from launching entire networks to birthing scripted series co-productions). I’m widely recognized for identifying, nurturing and mentoring top creative people, embracing and utilizing new technologies, and having a powerful “gut” when it comes to identifying the essence of an idea.
My expertise includes children’s series and specials (scripted and reality, live action and animation), youth-oriented programming (including reality, music videos and documentaries), branding and identity packages, interactive television, and most recently, conceiving the approach for several rich media broadband sites. My complete executive resume is available on my website.
I am currently writing and developing several new projects in which user-led, interactive broadband content is the lead medium, supplemented and promoted by print or television. Whether this can be funded in the short term (particularly in the children’s area) remains to be seen, but I have always been comfortable out on the leading edge.
My work has received wide recognition at film and television festivals internationally, earning the Cable Ace Award, Emmy Awards (both children’s and primetime), the International Film and Television Award, the Gold Promax Award, the Parents’ Choice Award, the Logie (Australia’s version of the Emmy), and a nomination for the prestigious Prix Jeunesse. A series which I co-created, The Famous Jett Jackson, is a permanent installation in the Museum of Television and Radio.
Oh, and I have my own, personally-inscribed MTV Video Music Awards spaceman, which reads: “Liz Nealon. 1981-1990. Best Performance by a Generalist.” Which pretty much sums me up.

Zing Interactive Television was a bleeding edge, pre-Internet interactive consumer technology, funded by Liberty Media. The sales process was really a creative process - convincing networks of the validity of the technology and richness of the consumer experience, so that they would commit to encode their programming with a Zing interactive track. Was brought in to lead the sales team in creating interactive applications and calling on networks to sign a critical mass of programming prior to consumer launch. We succeeded in signing all the top networks; the project ran out of money before the units shipped. Although it was ultimately unsuccessful, this was a defining experience for me as a writer/producer in terms of beginning to think about user choice and control, as well as interactivity.

Nearly completed an M.A. Journalism, but withdrew to join the start-up team at MTV. Hope to return one day soon and earn this degree.
