Ann Tardy’s Summary

I have been fascinated with the way people engage (or don't) in the workforce since my first job at Coopers & Lybrand when I sent my boss Glenn Rossman a memo with ideas for motivating associates. Little did I know it would be my calling!

Even in my law firm days at Pillsbury and Fenwick & West, I studied people and their relationships to the firms. I left to join Weave Innovations, a start-up led by Rob Siegel and quickly learned how leaders can engage and motivate a team of people. I woke each morning excited to go to work!

When funding ran out, I joined Riverstone a company founded by Piyush Patel, another consummate leader who engaged people in a vision. When Piyush stepped down, it became obvious that some leaders contribute to the workforce while other leaders contaminate it.

While in-house counsel, I co-directed the entrepreneurial education program at the Girls Middle School in Mountain View CA for 5 years with a fabulous partner Donna Fedor. We introduced 12-year-old girls to the world of business with the help of a great team of adult mentors. It was there that I fell in love with mentoring as a powerful tool to engage and develop others.

My passion for girl empowerment continues today. I serve as the Board President of Girls Lead Now, a non-profit that empowers teen girls (www.girlsleadnow.org)

In 2002 I initially launched LifeMoxie to empower women with life skills and created Women's Economic Power Day conferences in 8 cities. But, the demand for empowering individuals in workforces won the day and we retired the conference.

In 2007 I published my first book LifeMoxie! Ambition on a Mission - 9 Strategies for Taking Life by the Horns. I love to motivate people by teaching them about their own moxie.

This year we partnered with Standard & Poor’s to create JEWELS Forum to connect leaders of corporate women's networks around the globe (www.jewelsforum.com)

My next book New Workforce by Friday will be out in 2010.
