Leon has over 16 years experience leading product and marketing for technology businesses. He was VP/GM of Chemistry.com at Match.com where he helped lead the division to profitability. He managed one of the most profitable video subscription businesses on the web as General Manager of the video subscription businesses at RealNetworks that generated in excess of $50 million in annual revenue. Most recently, he founded SparkCrowd, a mobile social games startup incubated in the TechStars Network (Tech Wildcatters) and selected for the Silicon Valley Bank Showcase.
Leon has an operational track record in delivering results through product and marketing. At Match.com, he led the Chemistry.com divison through dramatic growth in online marketing and a new vision of the product that helped reestablish competitive differentiation for the brand. At Real, he launched a new subscription product, expanded online marketing, and managed the pioneering real-time video product and community built around the CBS Big Brother reality TV show for five seasons beginning in 2005. He helped launch some of the earliest mobile applications including AOL’s first wireless service on mobile phones (Sprint) in 2000. As early as 1996, at the dawn of the Internet era, he was at Netscape advising a long list of Fortune 500 companies and helping them define and deploy their first online products and services.
Leon’s blended background gives him a unique ability to bring together the seemingly conflicting needs of the customer, marketing goals, financial results, and technical dependencies. He received his MBA from the University of Chicago in Marketing and Finance where he held the university’s Marketing Concentration scholarship. He has dual degrees from the University of California at Berkeley in Computer Science and Applied Mathematics.
