I founded Common Craft in 2003 to focus on online community consulting. From 2003-2006, we worked with companies like Microsoft, March of Dimes and Geffen Records to define online community strategies.
In early 2007 a new opportunity arose that has since reinvented the company. Common Craft is now a producer of explanatory videos "in Plain English." Our videos use a unique paper-and-whiteboard format called "paperworks" that helps us tell a 3 minute story with the goal of making something complex easy to understand.
Since our first video "RSS in Plain English" in 2007, our videos have been viewed over 8 million times and the Common Craft blog has become one of the 500 most linked-to blogs in the world (according to Technorati.com.)
Our current business is based on licensing our videos to schools and organizations of all types. We make "presentation quality" versions that are meant to be used as educational materials. We also license videos for public facing web sites.
We're currently working new series of videos that tackle the basics of topics like personal finance and computer literacy.
