Layla Fry is the Director of Communications at Southwest Key Programs, the 4th largest Hispanic nonprofit in the country. Southwest Key is headquartered in East Austin, Texas and operates schools, shelters, and alternatives to incarceration for youth in six states. Prior to joining Southwest Key, Layla worked in ex-offender reentry in London's Punjabi community and managed research projects at the National Crime Prevention Council (famous for its McGruff "Take a Bite Out of Crime" campaign) in Washington, DC.
Layla earned a Master of Science with Distinction in Criminal Justice Policy at the London School of Economics & Political Science, and a dual bachelor's degree in Sociology and Art & Art History from Rice University in 2001. Layla is a Leadership Austin Emerge Alum, currently serves on the board of the Young Nonprofit Professionals Network and is past Vice President for the board of the Crime Prevention Institute. She enjoys dancing, art and graphic design and is a proud alum of the Boys & Girls Club of the Brazos Valley. Last summer Layla began playing violin with Austin's only all-female mariachi group, Margaritas de Tejas.
