June 1986 — November 1986 (6 months)
Took on a short-term management position, hired by the Board of Directors, to organize and launch this training program. I enrolled over thirty volunteers. This included a doctor and nurse to give pre-course exams to all volunteers and and be on course for this 4-day event in the mountains. The LA inner city youth selected, participated in this outward-bound style ropes course and class work. I and all volunteers did the ropes course as well, aimed at team building, leadership practice development, etc.
I assisted in the parent-student interviews to help select the candidates to participate in this program. While at the course I managed onsite activities and problem-solved. I stayed briefly following the training to help connect trainees with their year-long adult mentors.
There is no center in Los Angeles now, but the Phoenix office is the original center that still exists and does great work for these inner-city youth who learn to reclaim themselves and their lives.
