I knew I loved learning and teaching and I had a maths degree - teaching maths seemed to be an obvious first career step. After a while I came to believe that schools are not the best places to enable young people to grow and develop, so I moved on.

A very useful grounding in business fundamentals, especially strategy and finance. Cycling 25 miles a day through hilly Yorkshire terrain to and from the course kept me pretty fit physically too.
