Meedan aims at initiating conversation between speakers of Arabic and English by using expert human translations along with machine translations.
Working as a Content Producer includes finding interesting story lines and locating interesting and reliable media sources for them including mainstream media and blogs, coordinating the work of translators, and moderating the conversations taking place.

Lingua is a Global Voices Online project, where Global Voices is translated into more than a dozen languages. It aims to amplify Global Voices in languages other than English to act as a bridge with non-English speaking bloggers and readers.
I volunteer to translate stories from English to Arabic and vice versa, to reflect conversations and current issues happening within my community. Specifically, shedding light on points of importance to the Egyptian and Arab society

Global Voices is a non-profit global citizens’ media project, where I work as a volunteer author and translator covering stories from the MENA region.
On a daily bases, I monitor bloggers and variety of new media technologies - weblogs, photos, videos, and wikis- to call attention to issues and points of views emerging from citizens' media; to publicize the ways in which open-source and free tools can be used by people around the world to express themselves.

In 2006, I proposed the idea of "We are all Laila”, to a group of female Egyptian bloggers, and agreed to work on an initiative to devote an annual day, to speak up about the problems facing oppressed women in the Arab region.
On that day, everyone is absolutely free to express their opinions the way they like, as long as they believe in such opinions, and are fully responsible for them on personal basis. Also participation is open and welcoming each and everyone, from Egypt and Arab countries, men and women, bloggers and simple citizens whom we
will voice and share their experience on the internet.
In 2008, Kolena Laila website was nominated to win as a “Best Weblog” in the Best of the Blogs Award (BOBs), organized by Deutsche Welle.
