Founded WordStream in 2007. Bootstrapped the company. Used consulting services revenue to fund a team of engineers and marketers to develop and sell software for search engine marketing automation.

In August of 2008, I secured a 4M Series A venture capital investment from Sigma Partners and later in 2010, another 6M Series B investment led by Egan Managed Partners.

Today the company is a +12M business, employing over 100 people, helping thousands of customers world-wide with their search marketing efforts, managing around half a Billion in combined spend.

In my role as CTO, I help with marketing and product management. In the last 5 years I've written over a thousand articles on small business marketing which have been cited in over ten thousand publications and have generated a total of over 10 million views. My blog does around 650k visitors / month and is the world's most popular SEM blog. I'm also a top contributor to a dozen other industry blogs such as Inc. Magazine, Search Engine Land, etc.

In addition to blogging, I've spoken at numerous industry events including INBOUND, Search Marketing Expo (SMX) East, SMX West, SMX Advanced, ClickZ / SES (Search Engine Strategies), Pubcon, MediaPost Search Insider Summit, PPC Hero Conference, SEMPDX, MNSearch, SearchExchange, MarketingProfs B2B Forum, State of Search, etc.

Recently, I won the "most influential PPC expert" in 2013 and 2014 according to the PPC Hero Blog and marketing agency 3Q Digital. Last year I won the "ClickZ Digital Marketing Hall of Fame" and "Small Business Influencer Award" in 2013. I was also the #1 top columnist for all of Search Engine Land in 2013.
