I started working the the computer industry back in 1979. I have experiance using UNIX/Linux on HP (MPE & HP-UX), DEC (Tru64), Sun (Solaris), SGI (IRIX), IBM (AIX) and Intel/AMD (Linux) platforms. I have worked with large groups of Linux nodes in a Farm/Grid configuration. I have administered Condor, LSF and Grid batch systems. I have designed, installed and administered various Local and Wide Area Ethernet networks. I was part of a team managing high capacity data storage systems containing over 20 PetaBytes of data. And I am currently working with an HPC environment running a batch manager based on Torque / OpenPBS
I write HTML/XHTML using XEmacs. This allows more control than most web development editors. I prefer command line tools over GUI front ends for most work.
I have worked in Customer Service at Hewlett Packard, as a Systems Engineer and briefly (the "Field on Loan" program) at the HP customer Response Center in Atlanta. I managed computer equipment and worked closely with the staff at Ameritech's National Customer Service Center. I have valuable experiance and training in customer service.
I am an advocate of on-line personal privacy. I encourage others in use of tools like PGP/GPG and CAcert.org. I have hosted GPG key signing parties and am happy to help others in building the "Web of Trust". I am listed as an assurer with CAcert.org and can give up to 35 points to those working toward assurance of a personal digital certificate.
I have many years of experiance in Computer Systems and network administration, on a mix of platforms. My strong suits are customer service, teaching/mentoring and troubleshooting.

I am part of a team of UNIX Systems Administrators who manages Fermilab's Data Movement and Storage Systems. We manage some robotic tape storage systems currently storing over 8 PetaBytes of data. We also manage file servers used to cache data moving into and out of the storage systems as well as the applications that drive these services.

BS BusAdmin , Business (Marketing, Finance), Computer Science , 1978 — 1983
I started out in the Electrical Engineering Program. I found the higher calculus to be challenging. So I changed majors to Business and got a minor in Computer Science. Valparaiso did not offer a major in Computer Science until a year after I graduated. I worked as an operator and computer lab assistant with the Academic Computing Center. I have worked in the Computer field since before I graduated. I have found it advantageous to be able to explain computer systems in terms my business customers can understand.
