Kristy Nilsson’s Summary
Kristy Nilsson performed & trained with Atlanta Ballet, Charleston Ballet Theatre & Houston Repertory Ballet, & trained under principal dancers from ABT, Kirov Ballet of Russia, National Ballet of Canada & Martha Graham, & with Boston Ballet & Joffrey. She was a Dance Pedagogy (instruction) Honors student at University of Oklahoma, graduating Cum Laude from Houston's High School for the Performing & Visual Arts.
As a performer, she was selected to dance contemporary works by Trey McIntyre, John McFall, Ben Stevenson, Daniel Pelzig and Jill Eathorne Bahr, and has danced such classics as Swan Lake, The Nutcracker, La Bayadere and Paquita.
Ms. Nilsson has choreographed more than sixty pieces, that have been performed by eighteen companies in eight states. Her choreography has won awards and recognition from Regional Dance of America and the Southeastern Regional Ballet Association and has been performed by the professional company, The Georgia Ballet.
In 2004 and 2005 Ms. Nilsson created a new storyline for, choreographed and rehearsed a full-length Nutcracker which played to 32 sold-out audiences; and in 2009, she composed a revised the libretto for, choreographed and rehearsed a new production of Swan Lake, which was widely called the company's finest production in its 25 year history. This summer, she is choreographing her newest full-length ballet, Aladdin, for which she has designed the costumes, written the libretto and chosen and arranged the music.
Ms. Nilsson is a dance instructor and choreographer based in Atlanta - she enjoys teaching ballet, pointe, modern & jazz from pre-professional through creative movement, & teaches Master Classes in ballet & modern dance, & workshops in choreography. Ms. Nilsson has coached both dancers & gymnasts to top state & national performance awards.
She lives in Atlanta and is very happily married to her husband, Scott Nilsson, a dance photographer and former dancer.
