  • Apply for jobs that actually relate to your background. If you are a VP of Sales don’t apply for a position titled “Astronaut”.
  
  • Spend very little time on job boards or help-wanted advertising. Everyone’s looking here. Instead, try networking sites like Linkedin.com to meet people at the companies you are interested in, and ask them for help in getting your information to the right person.
  
  • Google yourself – you would be surprised how many hiring authorities do the same. If you aren’t finding results that show you in the best possible light, it could be time to do damage control.
