Urban and Regional Planning
My career includes a blend of my planning and environmental experience and with with food systems planning. Food supplies and safety are rapidly being compromised through the modern agricultural process; more focus is needed on our food systems for agricultural preservation and public health. I am currently working to develop the new Culinary Arts District in the downtown area of the City of Oakland Park. I am very excited about working with food systems and redevelopment! I have a strong need to be a part of improving the places we live, work, and play.
I am a Senior Planner in the Engineering and Community Development Department at a medium-sized city in Broward County, Florida. I regularly process all the private-sector development applications (managing about 10 active projects at all times) and I contribute to various local government planning activities (Land Development Code updates, new City Ordinances, Climate Resiliency efforts). I am also working with the Oakland Park CRA to redevelop the downtown and the new Culinary Arts district. We recently approved 5 new restaurant spaces downtown; the changes underway are incredible!
I Chair the Development Review Committee and I am the staff liaison to the Planning and Zoning Board.
I worked with the Safe Routes to School program (sidewalks and education initiatives relating to safety) including contributing to the local Google maps segments to show bicycle and walking trail connections. I kicked off the implementation of the 2012 Public Involvement Plan including the launch of a social media presence for the TPO (Facebook, Twitter, and Foursquare). Representing the TPO, I was a charter member of the Transportation Coordination Network (TCN), working to meet the needs of the Transportation Disadvantaged population. I also served a member of the FDOT Community Traffic Safety Team for St. Lucie County/Martin County.
Most recent projects include the Transportation Disadvantaged Service Plan (TDSP) - prepared completely by TPO staff, and the Transit Development Plan - prepared along with a planning consultant. Both involved public outreach and survey data analysis. I also supported staff in designating the signage locations for the County's first segment of the East Coast Greenway.
In addition to committee work, I prepared staff reports and presentations for the meetings, reorganized the reference library, conducted research and analysis for various planning projects, prepared surveys, supported the preparation of the 2012 Federal Certification materials, documented safety and transportation needs, and prepared public outreach efforts.
As a Recording Specialist, I prepared the minutes for various TPO board meetings such as the Bicycle Pedestrian Advisory Committee and the St. Lucie TPO Board, Local Coordinating Board for the Transportation Disadvantaged, and the RTO Board.
Under contract, I worked with the Facilities Division on the implementation of School Concurrency in St Lucie County.
Independent urban planning consultant on a contract basis. Clients included private sector businesses. Leveraged my connections with engineers, landscape architects, surveyors, environmental scientists, realtors, attorneys, and architects to pick up work in the planning field in between full time jobs.
Business partnerships, marketing, and managing others at Huntington Learning Center in Port St Lucie. I made connections with people in education and those who market to parents. I planned fundraisers to provide scholarships to children in need of supplemental education but cannot afford it. I managed the staff of teachers and one administrative assistant, as well as created the schedules for teachers and students. When potential new students came in, I set up and proctored the assessment test for them to help create their learning plan.
Processed various land use applications through local governments such as Comprehensive Plan Amendments, Rezonings, Annexations, Site Plans, Amendments, and Design Criteria. Conducted due diligence and site investigation reports for small and corporate clients. Government planning projects included parking studies and neighborhood plans. Assisted in research for eminent domain litigation. Understanding of eminent domain procedures and planning reports for state road projects. Prepared proposals, time lines, and cost estimates for new projects. Assisted in site plan designs, including the application of LEED credits to site plans. Prepared maps, PowerPoints, and visuals for applications and presentations. Highly valued for communication with clients and local governments. Large role in government planning marketing efforts for the firm as well as preparation of RFP’s for new work. Kept up to date with Florida legislative actions involving planning and development.
Update and implementation of the County’s Comprehensive Plan and supporting documents. Team leader reviewing and preparing documents for Annexations. Key contact for analysis of Census data relating to the County. Review of Comp Plan Amendments. Organized many planning workshops and public forums. Contributing to Community and Neighborhood Planning program. Member of teams working on Joint Planning Agreements with municipalities, Affordable Housing, Economic Development (CRA), Water Use Zoning (including RFP evaluation) and Metropolitan Transportation Planning and Design (MTPO Design Team and Technical Advisory Committee).
