Laboratory Head, Center for Proteomics at the Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen)
Phoenix, Arizona Area
As of April 15 2009 I work at TGen as Head of the (new) Center for Proteomics. I am currently having fun setting up the lab, recruiting and getting ready at an aggressive pace. We have several ambitious projects in-house and with several national and international collaborators.
As a translational institute we are going to focus more in biomarker validation (around 25:75 discovery:validation). In the next months we are going to be building our proteomic pipeline and trying some new ideas along the way.

What I am currently working at:
Quantitative mass spectrometry
Biomarker discovery and validation
Phosphoproteomics
Sample preparation automation
Building high-throughput proteomic pipeline
I am also interested at:
De-novo sequencing
Glycomics
Novel ways to perform proteomic measurements
Proteome simplification

(Government Agency; Research industry)
April 2004 — April 2009 (5 years 1 month)
I spent 7 years in Dick Smith's group where I had the chance to work on a little bit of everything.
Sample preparation:
Chemical and enzymatic reaction acceleration by using ultrasounds, pressure, enzyme immobilization etc.
Analysis:
Proteome simplification and analysis by using electrophoretic and chromatographic techniques coupled with different types of mass spectrometers. Development of novel integrated top-down/bottom-up proteomic approaches.
Informatics:
Peptide retention time prediction in reversed phase and strong cation exchange liquid chromatography by using artificial neural networks and application of the information for increase of peptide identification confidence.
