Melissa G. Koefod is a former business owner and current law student at Georgia State University College of Law in Atlanta, Georgia.
Ms. Koefod received her B.S. in Policy Studies with a focus in aviation and transportation management from Georgia State in 2005. She went on to open a bar/music venue in Athens, GA and is now studying for her J.D. which she will receive in 2011.
Ms. Koefod is very involved in her community and her school. She will graduate with highest Pro Bono Honors. She has volunteered for organizations including Georgia Equality, Piedmont Park Conservancy, Habitat for Humanity, and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, is a coach for the special olympics and is the founder of the Vita Society, an Atlanta based group dedicated to raising funds to help homeless animals. She was solicitation chair for the Georgia State University College of Law’s Public Interest Law Association’s annual auction. She is a member of Georgia State University College of Law’s Criminal Law Society, LGLSA, Estate and Wealth Planning Society, the Business and Law Society, the elected philanthropy chair of Phi Alpha Delta, the elected 1L and 2L Honor Court Justice, the 2009-2010 appointed student representative to the Stonewall Bar Association, and was one of two student members of the SOAR Selection Committee. She has, as a student leader, been involved in interviewing candidates for a position as a Corporations Professor at the College of Law. She has participated in CLE programs including the Atlanta Bar Association's Life of a Trial, and the Georgia State University College of Law - Center for Law, Health, and Society's lecture on the role of conscience in the practice of medicine.
