As they say: Money runs the world, so how can you provide an edge to your company, if you don't understand the underlying economics and business. Unfortunately, most often, the business is subordinate to the ICT.

I worked as an IT guy on the IT side and on the business side of a company and discovered each side has its benefits and drawbacks and their mutual frustrations and goals. To maximize the output and efficiency of a company, you need to align the business with the ICT, which is not an easy thing to do...
