One of three senior IT directors for 3i plc, the FTSE 100 financial service firm, reporting directly to the CIO. I lead a team of 11 people (across two sites) which cover several important areas:

    • Core financial and professional service IT systems used within the business.
    • Collaborative/ knowledge management systems, including the company portal and CRM system.
    • Information security (including business continuity/ disaster recovery) – working within the IT department and with the business to ensure that 3i follows sensible security practices.
    • Project management (including leadership of the Prince-based project methodology)

Liaising closely with the business to ensure we deliver well targeted, high value systems, I manage a significant budget.

Remit extends into infrastructure and operations areas (e.g. frequent chairing of technical architecture group.)

Head of IT security and continuity for 3i. As a member of the senior IT management team, my focus was to ensure that the IT department and the wider 3i business adopted a sensible approach to information security.

This enjoyable role was a mixture of consultancy, project management, policy and standard development, risk management and hands-on security.

  • Senior technical and security consultant

Project managing a new initiative to replace all the workstations and notebooks within the company, including updating the software builds.
Running a project to design and implement a new, high performance, resilient firewall infrastructure at 3i.

  • Systems engineer

    Cegelec Projects

    (Public Company; Industrial Automation industry)

    September 1991December 1996 (5 years 4 months)

Job covered entire software lifecycle including analysis, design, implementation, testing. Software was developed in close conjunction with users, following RAD methodology. Tools used were Oracle, Access, C, Word, Unix (Solaris), Microsoft Windows.
