Freelance Writer and Editor
Portland, Oregon Area
After five years at Sports Car Market magazine, I struck out on my own to find my fortune in freelance. It worked: I've written for the New York Times, Details, the Oregonian, and About.com, among others, and I've edited several book-length works for publication.
Automotive journalism, especially alternative fuel technology.

I've covered classic cars at Sports Car Market and electric cars for GoodGreenCars.com, so it seemed natural that I should move into yet another auto niche: exotic cars on About.com. I create blog posts, image galleries, model guides, company histories, and more for the site.

I've answered questions about NASCAR sponsorships, the role of kinetic energy in regenerative braking, and the world's biggest truck. It turns out I love this kind of expository writing; who knew? I mean, where else would I get to explain downforce as it applies to stock car racing?

After six months of writing freelance automotive posts for RiverWired.com, my work was spun off to its own blog address, GoodGreenCars.com. As the only blogger on that site, I post three times a week. I do as much original reporting as I can, rather than regurgitating what anyone can find on Jalopnick or AutoBlogGreen.

I've worked with Publication Services as a freelance copy editor and proofreader on dozens of book-length projects, including juvenile literature, memoir, self-help, and poetry.

I write about the current crop of alternative cars for web sites like GoodGreenCars.com and print outlets like the New York Times, among others. I'm also the Guide to Exotic Cars on About.com. As time passes and tech improves, those two areas of expertise are meshing -- Tesla, Fisker, Aptera, and more alt-fuel exotics are coming down the pike.

I worked my way from data entry and customer service to copy editor to managing editor. The skills I learned at the magazine inform my current freelance writing and editing career. The work I turn in to editors is cleaner for it and always on time.
