Karen G. Schneider's Summary

I have over twenty years of experience in just about every type of library except school, which follows eight years in aircraft maintenance in the military. I've successfully led major changes and transformations. I am both a hands-on administrator and a writer/theorist. I have run IT departments but feel most at home where I am now, leading a university library.

In my personal life, I enjoy kitchen time, take stairway walks around San Francisco, and spend far too much time spoiling our two silly cats. I love to read across the spectrum of scholarly and popular materials, but these days I spend most of my reading time powering through scholarly articles for a doctoral program in organizational leadership for librarians at Simmons College. Please see my c.v. (attached in this section) for my work, writing, and professional engagement.

This is an example of my "industry" writing. I proposed and then wrote AL's "Internet Librarian" column for seven years. I have also written for Library Journal, Wilson Library Bulletin, Linux.com, IT Managers Journal, and other technical publications. In the 1990s Neal Schuman Publishing produced two books I wrote, The Internet Access Cookbook (1996) and A Practical Guide to Internet Filters (1998).
