Before that, he was a project researcher at the National Institute of Informatics. His main research interests include : Virtual /augmented/mixed reality, Human-machine interfaces/interaction (e.g Haptics), Human-behavior sensing and Visualization.

He is also interested in the research and development related smarter cities and urban mobility.

He has completed the requirements to acquire his PhD in Informatics at the National Institute of Informatics, affiliated to the Graduate University for Advanced Studies (official graduation in Sep. 2013). For his PhD research, he worked under the supervision of Professor Helmut Prendinger at the Global lab since April 2010. During his PhD research, he collaborated with traffic engineers to develop tools and techniques for human driver behavioral sensing in various transport scenarios. For that purpose he also visited Smart Transport Research Center at Queensland University of Technology in 2012.

Previously he received his B.Sc degree in Computer Science from the University of Colombo , Colombo, Sri Lanka in August , 2005. Then, he worked as a Software Engineer at Industrial Financial Systems Private Limited in Sri Lanka from August 2005 to August 2007.

In 2007 August, he obtained the Thailand King Scholarship for pursuing his M.Sc degree in Information Management at School of Engineering and Technology in Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand. During his graduate studies, he worked on a thesis under the supervision of Professor Peter Haddawy.

As a part of his graduate studies, he also participated in an international internship program at the National Institute of Informatics , Tokyo, Japan from July 2009 to December 2010 and also worked as a Project researcher at the National Institute of Informatics for 3 months from January 2010 to March 2010.
