CEO & Head of Serious Games
Coventry, United Kingdom
I established PIXELearning in 2002 as a specialist computer games-based learning (a.k.a. 'Serious Games') technology provider alongside my co-founder, Suraj Rana.
We focus upon using aspects of computer game and simulation design/technology to create engaging, enjoyable and, above all EFFECTIVE business/enterprise education, vocational and management skills development solutions. PIXELearning has seen year on year growth rates of between 50% and 100% from 2004 to 2009 with clients such as KPMG, Raytheon, PWC, Fifth Third Bank, Global Lead, 3M, Coca Cola, HP, Comcast, AXA and Shell amongst others.
We create highly-experiential conversational role playing, scenario-based/event-driven and business simulation applications and are in the process of moving towards multi player collaborative/competitive game play.
I see my role as being the company's lead innovator and evangelist. I have a track record of having secured and project managed bespoke development contracts for many clients including major international businesses, universities, colleges, schools, educational bodies, local government, private training companies, museums and TV/radio broadcasters.
I frequently speak at Serious Games and related events in the UK and Europe and have written several articles and papers on using digital games and simulations for learning.
My longer term goals are to "slow down a bit", focus more on the creative/conceptual aspect of serious games, undertake a Ph.D and to live for a period in California.
My personal blog site is at: http://theevilnumber27.wordpress.com and my (rarely updated) web site at www.kevincorti.com
Drop me a line and tell me something interesting.

My experience of founding start up's and working within a dynamic listed media company has also given me a broad range of business skills spanning financial planning and assessment, legal/contract issues, staff recruitment, team leadership, project management, investor liaison, marketing and sales team management.

October 2002 — Present (6 years 10 months)
I co-founded PIXELearning in 2002 and serve as CEO. PIXELearning specialise in applying computer game and simulation techniques and technologies to deliver effective and engaging business education and vocational skills development ....aka 'Serious Games'.
My focus has been to invest heavily in creating proprietary technology platforms from the ground up to ensure that we can deliver effective games-based learning solutions quickly, easily and cost-effectively. We've built a great management team, have some tremendous full-time staff, an extended network of very talented freelance staff and some excellent development partners.
Our goal is to create highly effective training, education and marketing solutions which are rewarding to use and which deliver meaningful and measurable results for learners and customers alike.
(Public Company; 51-200 employees; E-Learning industry)
December 2000 — September 2002 (1 year 10 months)
I was employed by Einstein Plc, a digital TV broadcaster, to set up and manage Einstein Learning, a Coventry,UK-based bespoke eLearning development studio. I reported directlty to the group's CEO and had full budgetary control. Einstein Learning was subsequently sold to FSDC Plc, a multi-service people and process development services group, alongside Einstein Network (video-based CPD) for whom I lead a project to create an 'e-CPD' technology platform.

June 1997 — December 2000 (3 years 7 months)
I co-founded Netucate Online shortly after graduating. The company was set up to exploit the rapidly expanding demand for eLearning content solutions. The company carried out projects mainly across the Midlands (UK) and for many private and public sector organisations but in the end the need for additional sales resources and developemnt funding lead us to seek an acquisition from Einstein Channel Plc.
(Privately Held; 1001-5000 employees; Mechanical or Industrial Engineering industry)

I worked for nearly seven years in the Mechanical Building Services sector starting as an apprentice, then as an assistant to the senior engineers and then finally as a Junior Contracts Engineer on a wide range of projects ranging from a few tens of thousand pounds up to several million. My time spanned working the many different disciplines includnig contracts, design, quantity surveying, estimating and buying. I ran an 18-month project in London worth £500k, where we had to install all mechanical and electrical building services in 30 or so self-contained appartments and had a site team of 20 tradesman and many specialist sub-contractors.
MPhil , Learning Technologies , 1997 — 2002
OK, I didn't get the scroll and another graduation picture - setting up a start up technology co and starting a family meant that I didn't have the time to complete this postgrad degree - but the research that I undertook, both literary and practical, laid the groundwork for my fixation for improving learning technologies.
