I am an educator with 16 years of experience at all levels of Pre-K to 12 education, including positions as principal, curriculum coordinator, department chair, and Spanish, philosophy, English, and ESL teacher.
I have been and am currently serving as the principal of the International Department of Xi'an Hi-Tech International School in Xi'an, Shaanxi, China for the last four years. My family and I are ready to move on to new opportunities as we have put the school on sound footing for future growth and improvement. During my tenure at XHIS, I have also spent time in the classroom as an English, Spanish, philosophy, and ESL teacher. I am seeking a position which includes components of administrative and classroom opportunities. I am currently beginning training in IB Diploma Spanish and TOK.
I am firmly committed to inquiry-based, student-centered learning and to a classroom full of energy, challenges and enjoyment. My classes are never characterized as lackluster or boring. In regards to my administrative experience, I value a collegial atmosphere in which everyone's opinion is solicited and honored. I operate by persuasion rather than domination, recognizing that unless people are on board with what we're attempting to do, life becomes more difficult for all of us. At the same time, I realize that a leader sometimes has to make hard decisions, and I am willing and able to do that.
