I believe that the old saying of, "It's not personal, it's just business" has been reversed. Now, the truly successful companies are those that say, "It's not just business, it's personal."
My goal in every communication effort I have undertaken has been to keep a put a human face (whether literally or figuratively) in the place where a brand logo has traditionally been found.
Whether it has been writing web copy, making design decisions, writing press releases or using social media tools to promote special projects, I have worked to keep a personality in every communication.
I am passionate about the ways that the internet can help a company connect with their customers and prospective customers in more and better ways than ever before. These tools give customers better access to companies than ever, while giving companies better access to their customers than ever.
At the same time, I believe marketers too often fall prey to the "new shiny object" syndrome. Instead of choosing the right tools to achieve their goals, they decide they need to use the hot new communication tool - whether it fits their brand image or not.
My goal as marketer is to find the true message of the company and choose the right tools to help the market understand that message. That can be on the internet, in print, on the phone or in person. Ultimately it is about learning how the company helps the customer and using the right tools to help people understand "what's in it for them."
