Function as the unofficial openoffice.org (and open source) evangelist in our company.
One of our current projects -- converting office from Microsoft to OpenOffice.org has progressed much more smoothly than anticipated. Other than a few anomalies (primarily .docx nuances), most of our people were only slightly inconvenienced by the transition. We may even convert a vendor or 2.
OpenOffice.org and the Go-oo fork are cross-platform office application suites available for a number of different computer operating systems. They support the ISO standard OpenDocument Format (ODF) for data interchange as its default file format, as well as Microsoft Office '97–2003 formats, Microsoft Office '2007 format (in version 3), and many others.
