Social Media - Virtual Worlds
Toronto, Canada Area
My current role as Managing Director of the Virtual World Design Centre has three distinct elements: I am a creative director, overseeing a team of designers and developers building 3D virtual world environments for business, government, and education. In working with educators in this new field, I am an instructional designer on the frontier, working to make sense of the vastness of virtual worlds and helping educators meet their learning outcomes in unique and engaging ways. I am also a metaverse evangelist, spreading the good news about 3D synthetic environments and their potential...and the good news is "they work". I speak frequently at conferences about social media and the 3D internet.
Virtual and Real World Idea Machine: I am a doer who makes it all happen and lives to speak about it.

My role at Loyalist College is to revivify e-Learning department by engaging, training, and supporting faculty with cutting edge technological solutions for the extended classroom. My task is to transform the negative perceptions of technology and to engage the college in a new wave of innovative ideas and platforms. Loyalist College became the first Canadian school to teach in the virtual world, which garnered the college significant national publicity. The success of the Second Life project placed me in the role of ambassador for the college, welcoming interest from all over the world in our work and partnering in strategic alliances to cast the college in a positive light. As the central developer of the Second Life Loyalist College properties, I have been able to share our expertise with our larger educational communities.
