I am a Research Scientist at Thomson Reuters, a.k.a. Thomson/West, a.k.a. Westlaw. Our department focuses on Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, Data Mining, and so on. We do a lot of applied research and a fair amount of speculative research.
I got my Master's degree from the University of Sydney in Australia, studying under Rafael Calvo. Before that I was an independent consultant/programmer, doing mostly Perl programming. Clients included the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, and the Howard Dean For America presidential campaign.
Before that I was a high school math teacher for a couple years, and before that I was a programmer at the Math Forum in Swarthmore, PA. At Swarthmore College, I majored in Math and Music.
Text Mining, Information Retrieval, Machine Learning, Support Vector Machines, the R Statistical environment, Perl, managing resources with Perforce, computing with probability & statistics.
