March 2000 — November 2005 (5 years 9 months)
The Solutions Architect role was as a bridge between the customer and the engineering experts. I needed to ensure that the customer's business requirements were identified correctly and that the solution proposed would meet these.
I had to OWN the solution. Regardless of the technology involved, if it was an Ericsson solution or third party one. This required a lot of facilitation. I worked as part of the delivery team, but drive my areas of responsibility independently.
I engaged with all the New Zealand operators and several of New Zealand's major corporates. The solutions covered the whole gambit of ICT from Wireline DSL and VoIP end-to-end infrastructure projects to 3G IMS core and applications. This meant that I was constantly working with new technology and in many focus areas. I needed to quickly understand the principles of a technology, know what to ask the experts and the customers to ensure that we presented an appropriate end-to-end solution for the customer's needs.
