President of Kato Design Studio

Kato Design Studio operates under the belief that all design is interrelated and needs to be developed as a whole. In the design process, emphasis is put on the entire effect of the project rather than one element of a design. Kato Design Studio offers a wide range of services, and works to ensure a comprehensive design solution through its diverse expertise. Every project presents a new set of criteria that requires individual attention, which is only possible in a small office setting. Kato Smith, AIA oversees every project with primary concern and keeps his staff educated and up to date on the latest building practices and techniques.
Kato Design Studio was formed in 1994 by Kato Smith, AIA, who received both the Bachelor of Environmental Science and Bachelor of Architecture Degrees from Ball State University’s College of Architecture and Planning. Kato Design Studio provides a comprehensive, sustainable approach to clients seeking an architectural solution to meet their uniquely contemporary needs. Whether a small, private retail venture or a large corporate headquarter, understanding and meeting the specific needs of every user is the goal of each project. The services rendered depend upon the scope of the work and the desire of the client. The firm’s expertise ranges from initial space planning to construction observation of the complete building process.
