Artist/Writer of Apifera Farm
Portland, Oregon Area
My life as artist and writer has been enriched since I moved to our Apifera Farm where my husband and I raise sheep and lavender, and work to live sustainably and be good stewards. The many animals that surround me are my muses and end up in art, short stories and puppet shows. I am an artist of many mediums - paint, words, fabric, dolls and puppets. The farm is one giant stage for me.
My time in NYC and Mpls. also enriched my life. I worked as a freelance illustrator from 1996, starting in Mpls, until 2002, when I moved to Oregon. I continue to work with art directors on a national basis. Past projects have been completed for Marshal Fields, Neiman Marcus, Charles SchwabI, Gourmet, Utne Reader, Coca-Cola, Target and many more.
My projects span the editorial, gift, retail, ad and publishing genres. My rep calls my style 'naively elegant" which I find pleasing. Awards with Print, CA, Amer. Illustration and MN AIGA make me happy. I work traditionally with acrylic/mixed media/pastel, but use digital layers to create illustrations. I also show at galleries, and complete private commissions.
My life now includes writing and I have a book coming out in mid 2010 with Quarry that I wrote and illustrated. It focuses on my story telling, and inspirations as an artist. I also have written some children's stories, the book dummies are available for an editor's review- just contact me. You can see glimpses of them at the Children's section of my site.
My blogs showcase my essays and short stories, and now, puppet shows. I think stories should be shared. Life is rich.
Words that heal and touch. Animals, nature, emotive people, story telling. Children's and adults markets. Donkeys! Whimsical style mixed with emotion - perfect for gift/retail/publishing. My use of color has been successful in ad work and retail POP. Never miss a deadline.

I began as full time artist/illustrator in 1996 in Mpls. where I worked independently for many years with such clients as Marshal Fields, Target, Graphiculture and others, as well as national clients.
I now live in Oregon on Apifera Farm, where I continue to paint for commercial clients,as well as galleries and private commissions. I also am writing short stories and essays, many illustrated. You can keep up with my writings at the blog www.apiferafarm.blogspot.
I am currently writing and illustrating a book about my creative process and inspirations which will be out in 2010 [Quarry Books]. More on that after January, 2010.
I work in a painterly style, in what my rep calls "Naive elegant". Recent projects have been with Wall St. Journal, University of Minn., and The Bark. I keep my portfolio very up-to-date at www.katherinedunn.us.
