MD, Memset Dedicated Hosting
Guildford, United Kingdom
I am the Managing Director and co-founder of Memset Dedicated Hosting. Memset is Britain's first Carbon Neutral ISP and has won a number of awards for innovation, service and IT strategy including been voted best UK Web host 2006, 2007 & 2008 by PCPro magazine readers. Memset also recently joined the Deloitte UK Techology Fast 50. I have a number of focus areas outside Memset:
== Environment ==
I am passionate about green IT, am part of Intellect UK's directorial steering group on energy & environment, and sit on the BCS's Data Centre Specialist Group committee. I speak frequently on the topic, and Memset continues to lead its competitors in the field of energy-efficient hosting, recently being awarded PCPro's environmental innovator award.
== Women in IT ==
I am working to improve the number of women in technology. I am part of Intellect's women in IT forum management group, and one of their spokeswomen on the topic with a main focus on getting more girls interested in technology. I recently became the first woman to tandem-skydive past Mt. Everest in order to raise money for Computer Clubs 4 Girls.
== Business representation ==
I sit on the main & operations boards of Intellect UK, the UK's high-tech trade association (whose members represent 10% of UK GDP), am a director of the Surrey chambers of commerce and the vice-chair of her local IOD branch. Through those positions I work to represent the needs of high-growth, innovative, technology SME's.
== Improved care for the transgendered ==
Finally, I am one of the the lucky few transwomen who could afford proper treatment and therefore look normal and am thus able to lead a full life. I am a trustee of GIRES (the Gender Identity Reserch and Education Society), and am working to improve medical care for transexual people in the UK, especially children.
