I’ve worked for numerous candidates and political organizations since 1996. In 2001 I was field director on then-City Attorney James Hahn’s successful first campaign for Mayor of Los Angeles. After leaving my job as deputy communications director of the California Democratic Party in 2003, I worked as multimedia communications director and member of the renowned web-team for Howard Dean’s 2004 presidential campaign. In 2005, I worked as press secretary for Congresswoman Louise M. Slaughter (D-NY) on the House Rules Committee helping to expose Republican ethics abuses in the nation’s capital. In 2006 I served as communications director of Democrat and Iraq War veteran Paul Hackett’s brief campaign for U.S. Senate in Ohio and then as national press secretary of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee. Prior to my work with progressives and Democrats, I worked in Republican politics for several years before finally switching parties in 2000. During my time in the GOP, I worked for Sen. John McCain’s (R-AZ) 2000 presidential campaign as press advance and field staff after working on Lamar Alexander’s (R-TN) short-lived campaign for the presidency. In 1998, I was finance director for then-Congressman Jim Nussle’s (R-IA) re-election campaign and in 1996, I served as volunteer coordinator on the congressional campaign of then-Rancho Palos Verdes Mayor Susan Brooks (R-CA). I’m now communications director for Media Matters for America, a progressive research and information center dedicated to comprehensively monitoring, analyzing, and correcting conservative misinformation in the U.S. media.

Paul Hackett is a trial lawyer and Marine Crops veteran of the Iraq War who unsuccessfully sought election to Congress from the 2nd District of Ohio in a 2005 special election. A Democrat, he narrowly lost to Jean Schmidt, providing the best showing in the solidly Republican district by any Democrat in 30 years. Hackett's campaign attracted national media attention and led to a run for the U.S. Senate which he dropped out of on February 14, 2006.

The Committee on Rules, or more commonly, Rules Committee, is a committee of the U.S. House of Representatives. Rather than being responsible for a specific area of policy, as most other committees are, it is in charge of determining under what rule other legislation will come to the floor. As such, it is one of the most powerful committees in Washington, and often described as "an arm of the leadership."

I live to travel. Before I totaled my crappy 1996 Toyota Corolla in 2001 (I now drive a Honda Civic Hybrid) it had 190k miles on it. With me behind the wheel it saw the back roads and highways of 30+ states and 3 countries (okay so they were the United States, Canada and Mexico, but that counts!) I also enjoy the outdoors, long drives, snowboarding/skiing, hiking (ask me about the time I fell off a cliff), climbing, camping, hanging out at the beach, reading, going to the movies, dancing, live music, going for coffee in the middle of the week at 2 in the afternoon or just sitting home with some friends a DVD and some popcorn.
