Netherlands Antilles
Personal
I live in the Netherlands Antilles (Curaçao) with my wife, Carla, and our two daughters, Yvette and Pascale.
I have three confessions. First, I am an attorney. Second, I’m not sure what made me decide to become an attorney. Third, I seem to be pretty good at what I do.
Most people, including my clients, think that I am a professional with a sense of humor, open-minded, and full of energy.
When I am not working, you will find me on a beach playing with my children.
Business
I am a partner at Spigthoff Attorneys at Law & Tax Advisers and belong to both the Amsterdam Bar (the Netherlands) and the Netherlands Antilles Bar.
I really like practicing in the Netherlands Antilles because it’s a perfect mix: working in an almost tropical environment and getting paid for it too...
My specialties are corporate law, banking law, securities law and e-commerce.
What else have I done?
1. Serving as a lecturer at the University of the Netherlands Antilles on 'conflict of laws' (international private law).
2. Providing commentaries on corporate and securities case law developments.
3. Writing about Dutch and Netherlands Antilles law. And it is true indeed: I am the author of the leading legal text book on Netherlands Antilles and Aruba corporate law (2nd edition 2006; 340 pages).
4. Participating in the Business & Law Research Centre, Radboud University of Nijmegen.
If you or your colleagues need advice or representation on corporate law, banking law, securities law, or e-commerce, feel free to suggest that they contact me.
