Was a lead back-end (and front-end) developer. Worked on different tasks and had a key role in two major 6-month projects for Microsoft. Wrote a small patch for Apache 2.x that affected over 100 servers world-wide, to fix an issue with logging of requests. Wrote a small part of the Apache module mod_cache in pure Perl in order to locate tile paths on cache servers when a cache clean needed. Had a key role in re-designing web site's URL structure and re-implemented it in JavaScript. Later patched it to support Virtual Earth specific parameters. Found and fixed some encoding-related issues within Template Toolkit. Had a key role in maintaining in-house developed API that was used by web site itself and thousands of clients. Developed an algorithm to create the short forms of web site's long URLs and implemented it to both web site and API. Within the last long-term project, had a key role in restructuring of both internal development systems and the web site. That included, writing a new build script to integrate changes from development servers to test and live servers, making new development servers work as normal without having other developers affected by the change, re-modeling and implementing changes on how dynamic and static content are fetched at client-side (i.e. CDN stuff), etc... While and before this project, had a (junior) role in architecture of the whole system and products that company had, especially for the Istanbul Office. Spent two weeks in London Office to have meetings and/or clinics with several people only for that role. Spent lots of other weeks in London Office for other projects and/or tasks I had.
The reason for the end to this job was Microsoft's world-wide layoff that was announced on January 23rd, 2009.

Initially worked on interface coding. Wrote cross-browser compatible HTML and CSS by just getting PNG and/or PSD files from designers. Developed different technics to load flash content more smoothly without interrupting users. Projects were developed on .NET framework, thus C# was used. Did some modifications to C# code, whenever an issue was caught. After a while, worked on flash-based game development and developed using ActionScript 2. First impressive work was a crossword algorithm that calculated word collisions and relocated them when needed. Second impressive work was an advergame for an international beer company. It was an adventure game having 29 rooms to collect keys, golds, run from creatures and traps, etc... This game won the 'Best Advergame' award in a national contest of lead companies in Turkey. After the success of this game, developed a freekick game for a lead national bank, a car racing game for an oil company, an action game for a medicine company and a multiplayer game for the company's e-learning product. Also, some web sites I participated in development got awards from Web Marketing Association's WebAward.

Worked on a web portal that was built by PHP and MySQL. Most data processing was done via text files on the server instead of a proper database. Had a key role to change that and migrate most of the system to use MySQL. Portal software was developed in-house and was a simple CMS. Developed new modules like getting data from 3rd party web sites, auto-complete feature via ajax technics, creating auto-generated thumbnails from and applying pre-defined masks to uploaded images, etc...

Mostly developed using PHP and MySQL. Installed a Fedora server for backup and email options and maintained it for several years. For a security-related task, developed a small socket-listenning Perl script having a special handshaking mechanism. Tied the Fedora server with the core system that was initially built on FreeBSD.
