Freelance Web Developer
Tyler, Texas Area
I code in PHP, Ruby, and JavaScript; interface in HTML, XHTML, and CSS; databaserate in MySQL; serve on Apache; version-control with Subversion; run the whole shebang on Linux; develop on Mac OS X; and could explain why I use each of the above if you were very bored.
I can also architect and design elegant user experiences and interfaces. An unrelenting idealist, I like to write valid, accessible, and semantic markup; use JavaScript unobtrusively; and use Rails whenever possible.
My goals are to work less and play more. My definition of "play" includes sitting on my back porch with my wife, drinking red wine, while staring at my dog until she barks and runs in circles.

Freelance interface developer. Honed standards-compliant XHTML/CSS development, taught myself JavaScript (and how to work with Ajax). Produce everything from "business card" websites to CMS-drive web apps.

July 2006 — April 2008 (1 year 10 months)
Hired as an interface developer (writing valid and accessible XHTML, CSS, and JavaScript), was taught all four corners of LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP) and have now taken several web applications from wireframe to deployment. Have also developed and deployed several Ruby on Rails projects (which is way more fun), using best-practices such as Subversion version control, judicious use of Ajax, and accessible markup.

August 2005 — July 2006 (1 year)
Worked as an interface designer and HTML/XHTML/CSS/JavaScript developer. Updated the company-wide sitelet administrator application to standards-based XHTML/CSS. Cut up Photoshop designs into semantic and accessible markup, integrated them into Vialuna's .NET-based sitelet framework. Redesigned and prettified client web apps. Worked on-site in Bucharest with Romanian developers, who eventually wanted to kill me for my insistence on valid markup.

August 1999 — January 2001 (1 year 6 months)
Owned and operated the local "First Monday Directory" magazine, which was a directory / yellow pages for the local First Monday trade days and flea market. Increased circulation from around 1k to over 5k before selling to largest competitor. Designed, wrote, and produced the magazine using QuarkXPress, Photoshop, Illustrator, and all the other graphic standards. Sold advertising, managed business relationships, managed sales team, produced artwork, wrote articles, distributed magazine... basically Renaissance Manned the whole operation. And yeah, if you're doing the math: I was only 17.
Bachelor of the Arts, English, 2001 — 2005
Spent half my time here pursuing a pre-med BioChem degree, before realizing I tested really poorly in both subjects. Switched to English because I enjoyed reading and writing, and because there was this really hot girl in the department. Graduated cum laude a year and a half after marrying said girl.
Associates of the Arts, Business Administration, 1997 — 1999
Started on my 15th birthday, graduated before turning 17. Not sure if I burned out or faded away after.
