Julien Aubert’s Summary

I’m currently a project manager at extralab. We are exploring the emerging areas of the web for companies curious in meeting new consumer entertainment trends.

My main activity is on Second Life. Since October 2007, I participate in helping Orange to elaborate a development strategy for its community in Second Life: the Orange Island.

I’m totally convinced that brands should have a huge interest in focusing on their consumer’s happiness. Because Happiness is the new capital, marketing should help brands establish an emotional link with their consumers. And it is the job of the media agency to design entertaining experiences in addition to traditional message based communication.

In this way, I’m exploring the Alternate Reality Games field. I actually focus on every playful experience that implies users as players but let them use their own identity. Some call them Serious Games. They can be local or global. Off or on line. Last for a long or short period of time. But they all are interactive and ask a large community to resolve something together.

I have no doubt about the potential of Second Life in being a great tool for fictional adventures.

The main reason I’m attracted by chaotic fictions is that in 2006-2007, I lived in Shenzhen, China (where I obtained my Master of Business Administration) and six month in Melbourne, Australia. During this time I met people though the web. But I had the greatest time in playing with them.

As Einstein said: “You can discover more about a person in an hour of play than in a year of conversation.”
