Senior Business Analyst at Atlassian Software (no recruitment phone calls please)
Sydney Area, Australia
I have a broad background in Internet technologies, software development and IT management.
My early involvement with CompuServe Pacific started my participation with Internet technologies. I am a keen programmer, but have more recently spent my time managing technical teams and working with businesses to select and implement enterprise-level IT solutions.
I enjoy presenting to audiences and excellent writing skills due to my background in journalism.
I have an MBA from the Australian Graduate School of Management and have since taught Executive MBA classes.
I relish opportunities that involve Internet technologies that can be directly applied for a business benefit. While my work these days is high-level and outcome-focussed, I still enjoy small programming projects that keep my technical skills up-to-date.
What excites me?
* Something with variety and opportunities to learn -- I get bored if there's nothing new to do/learn
* Something that makes a difference to the world -- not just earning money for the sake of it
* Something with challenges looking for creative solutions
* Something that lets me feel part of a fun, supportive team (I greatly enjoyed building a technical team that I managed a few years back)

Pink Elephant is a worldwide organisation specialising in ITIL (IT Infrasturcture Library) IT Service Management processes and Prince2 Project Management.
I joined the company soon after it started operation in Australia and provided consulting and training in both ITIL and Prince2.
Working with Pink Elephant was an excellent experience as the company had a great culture and the work provided me with exposure to many different companies through my consulting work. It was an excellent application of the skills I had gained from my MBA.
Through Pink Elephant I also discovered my enjoyment of delivering training courses and speaking in front of audiences. This has carried through to all of my later positions.

I was a member of the startup team for CompuServe Pacific (a division of Fujitsu Australia -- see below). CompuServe was an online service similar to AOL before the introduction of ISPs and the World Wide Web.
As a member of a small team, I was involved in technical customer support, telephone sales, marketing and billing. We were a young, enthusistic team in a great market just as online services were starting to boom.
During this time, I took 2 years off to earn an MBA from the Australia Graduate School of Management (see below).

After initial training, I moved into a team developing a mainframe-centric client/server e-mail system. This was my first official work as a programmer although I had been personally developing software on Apple computers for many years.
Later moved into a new division running CompuServe Pacific, Australia's first online service. (See above)
MBA , Business Management , 1994 — 1995
(2 year full-time course)
My subjects covered diverse areas including business strategy, accounting, finance, marketing, business law and statistics.
My MBA studies provided a breadth of experience that has enabled me to move from operational roles to strategic and management roles. Learning the "language of business" has enabled me to work with people from many different disciplines and helps me appreciate the "bigger picture" of business relationships.
During the course I also conducted a research project for the University to recommend improvements to the student enrolment process using new technologies such as voice-response telephony and on-line systems.
