Jon Plummer (jon@jonplummer.com)’s Summary

I lead teams that do user research and engineering, complementing market research by verifying feature and use-model assumptions, strengthening the product by understanding how it will be used and by whom. My teams then translate these findings and business wishes into controls and behaviors that fit consumers’ lives. This requires focus on real user goals and quick prototyping of products that meet those goals; doing so reduces the cost of training and support, contributes to positive word-of-mouth, and ultimately leads to more sales, more revenue, and fewer unnecessary features to build.

I abhor weighty processes and strive to remove obstacles, reduce excess internally focused effort, and foster an environment where researchers, designers, and developers work together to produce excellent products.

I help everyone involved understand the work they are doing as part of the larger business, and the intent behind each segment of the product they are building.

I lead by example – researching, designing, and helping to build software and hardware interfaces (be they on the web, on the desktop, or on a special-purpose device such as an insulin pump).
