In college, Jeff started an graphic design/ad agency with a friend when "desktop publishing" was a new thing. Little did he know that he would in three years find himself with a compelling sense that God was calling him to serve in ministry. He attended seminary from 1991-1995, all the while developing a philosophy of ministry that he describes as "loving, loosening, and leading."
After seminary, he served eight years as a collegiate minister on a campus in south Arkansas. It was in that small town of 10,000 that he and his wife had their two children, planted themselves and began to sense a new direction. In 2003, Jeff and Carolyn planted Journey Church in Monticello. In addition, Carolyn is a photographer, and Jeff turned back to graphic design and began learning web design to supplement his income and enable him to build relationships.
Jeff started an online community news site in 2006 called monticellolive.com, and it has opened doors in a dramatic way for increased influence and new relationships in Monticello, all while Journey Church has continued to grow. In 2007, Jeff sold MonticelloLive to Joe Burgess in Monticello to focus more on the growing church.
In the spring of 2009, Jeff was contacted by Northstar Church in Blacksburg, VA about serving as their second pastor. The founding pastor, Bob Jackson had retired. After much prayer, Jeff accepted the call and began serving there in July 2009.
Jeff's also been a consistent blogger at journeyguy.com since the fall of 2005.
