    Young Associates was a graphic design company in Phoenix, AZ that I helped transform into a full-service marketing and advertising agency. Our clients ranged from Pinnacle West, a billion-dollar energy corporation, to small local restaurants. They included Del Webb, the Learning Company and Robert Kiyosaki of "Rich Dad" fame. We produced TV, radio, print and direct mail campaigns, designed corporate identities and created brand strategies.

    My career as a copywriter began in my home town of London, when a designer friend showed me a brochure she was working on and I rashly said; "I could write that better." I continued my writing practice during two years in the Netherlands, and in the first months of my residence in the United States.

    As a student of literature, my fundamental interest at Cambridge was writing. I was fortunate to be present at a renaissance of contemporary poetry. The focus on writing, though it changed form, provided the foundation for my later career in marketing.
