15 years combined experience working with location technologies, GIS & geospatial services, geodata, wireless location network infrastructure, and GPS handsets, and in a wide range of roles as an industry analyst, product manager, industry solutions manager, marketing director, business development VP, and academic.
Most recently I was Vice President of Business Development at Sonim, a manufacturer of rugged GPS-enabled mobile phones where I worked on carrier, retail, & B2B sales, partner branding, grassroots global-market insertion, enterprise and consumer LBS applications design, and supplier agreements. Prior to joining Sonim, I was Developer Marketing Director at Openwave positioning a carrier-managed mobile location web service delivery platform in the B2B developer ecosystem with Sprint, and deploying mobile Browser, MMS, and AJAX device software solutions with Kyocera USA, LGE, Motorola, Sagem, Samsung, and Qualcomm. Before that, I had an Industry Solutions Manager role at ESRI, where I built a large developer-partner network serving industry verticals and consumer subsegments jointly with wireless carrier sales teams from Sprint, NEXTEL, and Bell Mobility. In 2004 I won ESRIs Award in Innovation. Before ESRI, I deployed the first wireless e911 location-based products at AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile USA, Telus, and Bell while at LBS pioneer SignalSoft. These systems still route half of all the 911 emergency services calls in the U.S. and Canada today. I started my wireless work as a Senior Analyst in Washington D.C. with research & consulting firm The Strategis Group where I built, managed, and sold a wireless-market segmentation GIS product that tracked FCC spectrum auction activity and coverage build-outs. My tech career began at M7 Visual Intelligence, an angel-backed remote sensing and LIDAR innovator funded by Crown Castle International.

September 2001 — Present (7 years 11 months)
Adjunct lecturer teaching a location-based services course to graduate GISc students, part-time, two weeks per year. Currently supervising two LBS research dissertation projects.
(Privately Held; Consumer Electronics industry)
August 2007 — October 2008 (1 year 3 months)
Recruited by the CEO to drive exploratory M&A efforts; manage partnerships with brands, content providers, software & hardware suppliers; lead global market development efforts across operator, retail, and direct-to-enterprise paths to market; and own Sonim's location-based outdoor and enterprise applications strategy.
(Public Company; OPWV; Computer Software industry)
October 2005 — September 2007 (2 years)
Recruited to initiate an LBS Developer Ecosystem marketing strategy, with parallel responsibility for leading geospatial platform plus mobile navigation application M&A target strategies. Subsequent post-organizational shuffles included Business Development & Corp. Marketing Management functions.
(Privately Held; Computer Software industry)
August 2001 — October 2005 (4 years 3 months)
Hired to build ESRIs initial corporate business strategy and marketing & sales plans for location-based services. Like working for a start-up (but with really deep pockets), I started with zero market presence, and over the course of my tenure built a global application developer and ISV community, won an innovation award, and departed with friendships and experiences that shaped my career in a profound way.
(Public Company; Telecommunications industry)
August 2000 — August 2001 (1 year 1 month)
Product Manager for pioneering provider of wireless e911 infrastructure systems for wireless carriers. SignalSoft was the global leader at this time, and the in-network systems we built and deployed still route half of all the wireless 911 location-based call traffic in the US and Canada today.
(Wireless industry)
January 1998 — August 2000 (2 years 8 months)
I was hired to build-out a geodata product as a result of an acquisition. The product tracked Cellular, ESMR, and PCS spectrum licenses, coverage build-out, and FCC auction activity, which we subsequently sold to wireless carriers, Cellmania, GM Onstar, the FBI, and others. I also built support materials for analyst publications and supported the first mobile location services studies conducted in the industry.
(Information Technology and Services industry)
November 1996 — January 1998 (1 year 3 months)
One of seven initial employees, operating on an initial $3M private finance round from Crown Castle International, we built and launched an airborne and terrestrial remote sensing system that collected 1ft/pixel resolution orthophotos, oblique imagery, LIDAR DEMs, plus street-level, georeferenced panoramic imagery.
(Government Agency; Government Administration industry)
March 1996 — October 1996 (8 months)
Term appointment position with the US Federal Govt, this experience gave me initial exposure to GPS and GIS which we used to manage Archaeological resources. The rest is academic prehistory that I hope to revisit someday in retirement :)
