I've been working in mobile for 12 years with backgrounds in enterprise IT, Geospatial tech, content & media, wireless infrastructure, and handsets, with experience as an industry analyst, product manager, industry solutions manager, community-builder & activist, bizdev strategist, and a salesman.
Most recently I was VP of Business Development at Sonim, a manufacturer of rugged mobile phones where I worked on partner branding, grassroots market insertion, applications strategy, supplier agreements, and carrier & retail sales. Prior to joining Sonim, I was Marketing Director at Openwave positioning Web service delivery platforms in the mobile ecosystem with major tier I carriers, and building developer marketing plans for a mobile AJAX device software SDK. Before that, I had an Industry Solutions Manager role at ESRI, where I built a developer-partner network serving industry verticals along with a few key North American wireless carrier-partner sales teams. In 2004 I won ESRIs Award in Innovation. Before ESRI, I deployed the first wireless e911 products in the U.S. while at LBS pioneer SignalSoft. These systems still route half of all the 911 emergency services calls today. I started my wireless work as a Senior Analyst in Washington D.C. with wireless research & consulting firm The Strategis Group where I built, managed, and sold a wireless-market segmentation product that tracked FCC spectrum auction activity and coverage build-outs. My tech career began at M7 Visual Intelligence, an angel-backed remote sensing innovator funded by Crown Castle International.
I stay close to my academic roots, and have taught a graduate course one week per year at the University of London. I'm thinking about continued education and was recently accepted into an MBA program, but that helped me realize a PhD is a more scholarly pursuit. I'm not sure about research focus, but am interested in where information-age media, mobility, and social science intersect.

(Public Company; 201-500 employees; Telecommunications industry)
August 2000 — August 2001 (1 year 1 month)
Product Manager for pioneering provider of wireless e911 infrastructure systems for wireless carriers. SignalSoft was the global leader at this time, and the systems we deployed still route half of all the wireless 911 traffic in the US and Canada today.
(Wireless industry)
January 1998 — August 2000 (2 years 8 months)
I was hired to manage a database product as a result of an acquisition. The product tracked Cellular, ESMR, and PCS spectrum licenses, coverage build-out, and FCC auction activity, which we subsequently sold to wireless carriers, GM Onstar, the FBI, and others. I also built support materials for analyst publications and supported the first mobile location services studies conducted in the wireless industry.
(Information Technology and Services industry)
November 1996 — January 1998 (1 year 3 months)
One of seven initial employees, operating on an initial $3M private finance round, we built and launched an airborne and terrestrial remote sensing system that collected 1ft resolution orthophotos/oblique imagery and street-level panoramic imagery similar to what you see today on Microsoft Virtual Earth and Google Maps Street view, respectively. Our CEO now admits his vision was about 10 years too early!
(Government Agency; 10,001 or more employees; Government Administration industry)
March 1996 — October 1996 (8 months)
Term appointment position with the US Federal Govt, this experience gave me initial exposure to GPS and GIS which we used to manage Archaeological resources. The rest is ideological academic prehistory that I hope to revisit someday in retirement :)
