I am a lecturer and researcher at Birmingham City University School of Media, with a particular interest in web & new media, social media, and alternative and independent media.
I am the Degree Leader for BA (Hons) Media and Communication (Web and New Media) and I am leading the development of our new MA Social Media.
Prior to joining BCU, I have eight years in industry running a design agency.
I was Chair of Sutton Festival of Arts from 2007 - 2009.
I am involved in a number of community based media skills training initiatives across North Birmingham.
I undertake a limited number of freelance design and consultancy projects, particularly with community or charitable groups.

I am a local researcher, developing case studies on creative industries support in the West Midlands for "CREATIVE METROPOLES: Public Policies and Instruments in Support of Creative Industries”.
The project aims to create a well-functioning, focused, flexible and efficient public support system for creative industries in the 11 participating cities: Riga (Lead partner), Helsinki, Oslo, Tallinn, Vilnius, Stockholm, Warsaw, Birmingham, Amsterdam, Barcelona, and Berlin.

We Share Stuff is a Social Enterprise project based in Birmingham, UK. Using social media, we deliver skills and qualifications in an open, collaborative style, blurring the formal and informal, using old and new technologies for social and educational change. We share our experience in the social web, to help people make the most of digital opportunities.

I was Chair of the organising committee for Sutton Festival of Arts. The Festival aims to showcase the creative talent of Sutton Coldfield, and raise awareness of opportunities within the town the become involved in arts activities.
I oversaw the festival through it's inaugural year and planning for its second year. As well as the overall management of the festival committee, I led the marketing and communications of the festival.

I worked on a portfolio of research projects within the Interactive Cultures research centre in the Birmingham School of Media.
I was also a Visiting Lecturer in Media, working on a number of theory and design modules.
My primary research role was supporting the AHRC funded Knowledge Transfer Fellowship in the Department of Media & Communication. I developed prototypes of innovative new media solutions for local music businesses and organisations.

We provided a full service from design to completion, delivering high quality print through the printing.com network.

In 2007, in addition to my work at hightide, I was involved in a project
called Urban Digital at Handsworth Library. Urban Digital was funded by SRB6 to provide free media equipment and training to members of the local community.
My role within Urban Digital was to deliver training in web design, as
well as assist with the organisation of an exhibition evening. Beneficiaries were mainly local artists or small businesses who were
enabled to promote their work online.
Urban Digital was commissioned for a further 10 sessions beginning in February 2008.

In 2001, I was asked to deliver seminars to undergraduate students based on my first year in industry. Developing on this, I returned to deliver more talks based on the professional work environment.
In addition to this from 2002, as part of my work with hightide, I was a
regular visiting tutor delivering six and twelve-week courses in web design skills to the undergraduate students.
