I can't tell you how many pieces from MAD Magazine won awards in art and design shows. There were at least a dozen every year. The rule to which we all subscribed was that each piece was collaborative between artist, writer, designer, art director, editor, etc., so no one person could claim credit. A very sound team principle! Every now and then we would receive notice that we received some award or another from some organization for design or content or for still publishing against all odds. It was nice, but generally I don't enter awards competitions, but I've been a judge on numerous ones!
Other awards and honors:
I was the winner of the Hallmark Kansas City Corporate Challenge T-shirt logo design for the first five years I entered the competition.
I was "honored" the School of Visual Arts didn't kick me out. (Although I believe my 3.6 average put me on the Dean's list -- I'll have to ask Dean, next time I see him).
