Jonathan Penny’s Experience

  • Network Ops Consultant

    White Henn Communications

(Privately Held; 11-50 employees; Computer Networking industry)

    February 2008Present (8 months)

Installing VOIP and network servers and infrastructure for White Henn as well as rolling out 70 servers for DePuy, Inc.

  • President & IT Consultant

    Pennywell Corporation

(Privately Held; 1-10 employees; Computer Software industry)

    January 2005Present (3 years 9 months)

Database, telecom, and network design consultant for companies such as DePuy, Johnson & Johnson, K-mart stores, Winn Dixie, and Southeastern Data, a DOD contractor specializing in IT infrastructure

  • IT Management Consultant

    Working Person's Store

(Privately Held; 51-200 employees; Retail industry)

    December 2006March 2008 (1 year 4 months)

Design, install, and support a LAN with nearly 100 PC's and 10 servers.

Design, install, and support an asterisk system using sip trunks for approx 130 lines and 70 stations. Designed custom call center management interface in PHP. Total cost savings for the project as opposed to other software solutions is approx $80K. Costs savings as opposed to non-software based pbx's is well into the $200K range. Call reliability and satisfaction of call center employees have vastly improved since the move as well.

I maintain 5 linux servers- three which are production servers powering workingperson.com, which has served as many as 20,000 unique visitors/day in peak season.

Duties also include planning for upgrades to hardware and telecommunications services, negotiating pricing with vendors, and managing an IT support staff.

I passed off full-time IT management to an in-house employee, but continue to consult on a part time basis for network and ERP migration projects.

  • Co-Owner

    BOOK'M Used Books

(Privately Held; 1-10 employees; Retail industry)

    January 2004May 2005 (1 year 5 months)

Developed the business plan, obtained funding, created an E-commerce website, and created a custom web interface for MS Dynamics. Then made the mistake of opening a brick and mortar location in a semi-rural area with mostly high-end collectors items.

If anyone is looking for an E-commerce website focused on books- including feeds to services like Amazon, abebooks, and others, I would be happy to re-use my code.

  • Network Support Project Management

    Concordia University Chicago

(Non-Profit; 201-500 employees; Higher Education industry)

    January 2001December 2003 (3 years)

Provided network and end-user support for over 2000 users.
