Since completing an honors degree in Computer Science in '92, I have been delivering large scale business critical solutions to a client list that includes UBS, Standard Life, Barclays Bank, RBS, Zurich, Royal Skandia and CACI.
I began my career leading development teams for large global finance companies, Zurich & Royal Skandia; started my own company in the 90's; and am now focused on technology start-ups.
My experience covers both global infrastructure and large scale application development, as well as operational support, and business start-up and change.
In 2006 I co-founded a software house in the City of London called Evaluate Technologies Ltd., specialising in delivering turnkey solutions to the Finance Sector, with clients including GMAC-RFC & Charcol. I have helped grow the business from a start-up to a team of over 50 people.
In early 2009 I founded Comment Technologies, a business which combines social media with market research, and am currently launching BandPie, a unique social media platform for music, and Thick Cut Recordings, a record label.

Co-founder of a Software House based in The City of London, specialising in delivering turnkey solutions to the Finance Sector.
Our flagship award winning product family 'Evaluate' enables users to submit a mortgage enquiry, receive the best responses from every lender, select a product, and submit their application online.
It is a step change away from the current online propositions, which without exception are all simple lead generators, selling on the consumer as a lead to a brokerage who will later cold call them.
Evaluate meets the customers expectations by allowing them to complete mortgage sourcing through application online without ever leaving the original website. It does this in seconds with 100% accurate market data.

I joined Utilyx during a time of crisis as Interim CTO, to help out the co-founder, Scott Bradley, a friend. The company had expanded rapidly, and the bespoke technology, infrastructure and teams were failing to keep up.
The company has an in-house trading desk, as well as a number of proprietary business critical trading systems, all of which were built and supported in-house.
The trading desk were struggling under a lack of systems, and the core proposition, the online reverse auction, was not scaling to meet customers demands. Customers included some of the UK's largest companies, Tesco, Cemex, Royal Mail, AllianceBoots, Diageo, O2, Yorkshire Water and AstraZeneca.
The reverse auction system had to be scaled through decommissioning and fundamental re-structuring of the infrastructure, and re-engineering of much of the architecture. I took the system from circa 60% reliability to 100%.

1995 — 1997 (2 years)
I ran a number of business critical projects and programmes, including Instream (sponsored by Juan Costain, who recommends me below), a ground breaking client-server PC/Microsoft based Forex Trading System, the 1st of its kind in the organisiation which wasn't mainframe based.
I also built various Quotation, and Decisioning Systems including what is recognised as one of the 1st Broker Quotation systems to use the internet, rather than floppy disk to distribute data!
As well as the above, I pioneered the interfacing of PC and AS/400 systems, and was responsible for all PC based development world-wide.
(Public Company; 10,001 or more employees; ZURN; Insurance industry)
1993 — 1995 (2 years)
Arriving at a time when the client was thin, and the system was IBM AS/400 mainframe, my timing was fortunate; I began as the only PC resource and managed to convince the then CIO that it would be a good idea to try out Windows, and interface to the AS/400 using Rhumba. This worked fantastically, as history now shows - with the desktop wiping out the mainframe in years.
I went on to introduce visual development to the organisation, initially (if i remember rightly!) with Microsoft Access, then Visual Basic as it became available.
It was around this time that one of the guys on the analysis team, Mike McCord - now Zurich CIO - took an I.T. Director position down the road at Royal Skandia and asked me to join him and run the newly formed 'PC Development Team' - see my next role, above.
This was an incredibly exciting time, and I worked with some of the best people I have had the good fortune to meet, despite the 13 years which have passed since!
