At 21, I outlined my goals until age 35, when I'd hoped to get the big job in New York as a writer for Sports Illustrated. Well, I met the goal of getting to New York, barely at age 35, but not to work for SI. Along the way, a diverted interest here and a layoff or two there re-routed my career path to include a stop in online news, which is where I've been since 2000 and where I hope to be for a while.
The next 15 years? Ultimately, I'd like to end up being more of a free-roaming journalist, using my story-telling skills, my writing and reporting experience, my creativity and personality and my new-ish love for photography to tell all aspects of the world's more interesting stories.
I know the language better than anyone I know, but -- and I can't believe I'm saying this -- that's unfortunately becoming far less of a noteworthy skill in the field of journalism. My writing/reporting skills are superb, I can generate a lot of creative ideas and my digital photography ability gets better every year.
Also, skilled in AP style, Photoshop, HTML, Blogger and familiar with Dreamweaver. Plan to learn Flash after becoming more experienced with Dreamweaver.
