    Development of business plan to provide multiple channels of MPEG-4 video content by satellite, both Direct to Home and to terrestrial IPTV head-ends across Asia, targeting the Philippines and Indonesia first. Undertook regulatory and technology reviews; formulated technology, marketing and operational strategies; negotiated with satellite operator for capacity; business plan; investor negotiations; research, selected and negotiated with potential in-country partners. Undertook extensive travel in Asia and US in 2008. CEO and COO in place, next round of finance on hold.

    Headed the regulatory, marketing and business development activities in New Zealand for the IPSTAR pan-Asian high-speed Internet satellite network for over five years. Formed and was Director of IPSTAR New Zealand Ltd. Project managed the construction of a large satellite gateway in Auckland to provide nationwide two-way broadband satellite services, outsourced the operation of the gateway to a local teleport operator. Initiated the market entry and undertook the service roll-out in New Zealand, hired a team, increased sales. Extensive liaison and reporting to Thailand throughout, ensuring strong support, product development and services were available to New Zealand partners and customers.

    Nava Networks, Bermuda

    The Nava project involved building a 9,500 km submarine and terrestrial cable network from Singapore to Sydney. Developed the initial concept and raised seed capital from angel investors, as well as built the initial management team. Negotiated and signed term sheet with a New York venture capital firm for a total investment of USD 650 million. Led the project as CEO until late 2000, then worked primarily on raising finance, legal and planning issues through 2001/2. The venture fell victim to the global collapse of the telecommunications financial markets in 2002.

    Established the Optus New Zealand office, hired, managed and developed a highly motivated sales and sales support team. Primarily responsible for major account sales and carrier relations; worked on the development and commercialisation of various satellite services. Prepared business case for a new two-way satellite networking service, initial product development, developed and led special bid team in Australia, resulting in a new service launched in 1997. Personally sold the largest contract for satellite services in Optus’ history at the time (to Sky TV NZ), worked closely with Sky TV on the launch of satellite DTH pay-TV in NZ. Worked with TVNZ on its DTH plans; assisted World TV to develop its multi-channel ethnic pay-TV service. Achieved four years of Optus Sales Pacesetter status (> 100% revenue target).
